The Arts Society provides children and young people with opportunities to get involved in creative arts activities.

At present we have a vacancy for our Young Arts organiser.  Our previous work has focussed on Young Arts Projects that are run in collaboration with local schools.  We are always looking for ideas and opportunities to work with local schools and artists. During the 2018-2019 season we had projects with 2 local schools, St Anne's Fulshaw Primary School and Wilmslow Academy.

Our project with St Anne's Fulshaw Primary School, took place in February and involved every child in the school. Julie Long, an artist connected to the Silk Museum, Macclesfield, led the two-day workshop, using recyclable and single use plastics as the basis of a 3D installation/wall display on the theme of protecting our oceans. It was an excellent mural that the children will enjoy for a long time.

Our second project with Wilmslow Academy, was to create three living willow shelters involving as many children as possible across the school. The workshops were led by environmental artist Lesley Martin.  A real legacy project to embrace creative minds.

During the year we worked with 2 local schools, Styal Primary School and St Anne’s Fulshaw Primary School.

Leonie Jones, our Young Arts co-ordinator helped Styal Primary School, with the support of a local artist, design and make a permanent ceramic mural about their school life. This was funded by The Arts Society Wilmslow and an Arts Society grant.  The MP for Tatton, Esther McVey, performed the unveiling of the stunning mural and the school musicians and singers entertained the crowd during the tea party.  To read the "thank you" letter to the Society from the school click here.

At St Anne’s Fulshaw Primary School, Alison Wilson a local potter, ran workshops related to the pupils’ project on The Greeks. 22 pupils aged 10-11yrs were involved, designing and making tiles on Greek themes.

Wilmslow High School

During the summer of 2016 members of our Society liaised with the Wilmslow High School Head of Art to view and select pieces by Year 13 (Final year) students for submission to the NADFAS and Royal Society of British Artists competition to find the most outstanding works by final year A-level students from around the country. Five excellent pieces were selected and put forward in August; from the hundreds of paintings submitted, one by a Wilmslow pupil was selected as the winner and was displayed as part of exhibitions in London in Spring 2017.
